Poitou-Charentes is a region made up of four departments - Charente-Maritime, Charente, Deux Sèvres and the Vienne. It’s one of the sunniest regions in France, second only to La Côte d’azur, with long dry summers, and short (although sometimes very chilly) winters.
The diversity of Poitou-Charentes is incredible. Open raw farmland makes for leisurely drives along quiet lanes with barely any traffic. Unspoilt beaches border the coastline, offering a huge variety of watersports. Activities are in abundance with many golf courses dotted around, wine-tasting tours on offer, river-boat trips, leisure parks, donkey rides, adrenaline action, animal parks, go-carting tracks to name a few. And let’s not forget the many high-quality restaurants and cafés found in most of the towns within the region. Yes, the gastro-gods certainly shine upon this little gem.
Away from all this, you also have some of the most fascinating towns in France. Some medieval, some with Roman links, but all with their own charm and a wealth of history.
Now, the chances are if you’ve landed here from a google search, you’ve already done all the research and decided that this is the place for you. But, if you haven’t, and if you’re not sold yet, then try the link below whch will tell you everything you need to know about Poitou-Charentes. Come back though, please!
