We are Richard and Victoria Houghton from the West Midlands. Whilst our main residence is in the UK, we love nothing more than hopping across the channel and soaking up all that France has to offer.
We have a passion for old properties and all things French, and since purchasing the property in October 2013, it's been all hands on deck to transform a tired-looking old cottage into the beautiful haven we believe it to be now.
On a holiday in 2012 we were immediately drawn in by the diversity that Charente-Maritime has to offer. We spent a week enjoying bike-rides along the local lanes, picnicking by the river, lunching lazily in medieval towns & by the end of it, we knew we had discovered somewhere truly special. We returned just six months later when we stumbled upon what we have now named ‘Le Beau Fief’ and decided to purchase a little bit of France just for ourselves.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
We love the tranquility that our properties provide, but at the same time, hop in a car and you can be amidst the hussle and bussle of a busy market town within 10 minutes. We love its quirkiness - both the gite and the house have some really interesting features, we just wish we knew a little more on its history. The houses in the hamlet are thought to be built on the remnants of an old chateau The property opens out onto acres of raw farmland, sunflowers galore and waivy maize fields. The walled garden makes it that extra special and provides such privacy from the outside world, it just makes for a really relaxing break. The property is part of a twelve-house hamlet, with a real sense of community spirit. We have put a lot of love into creating a lovely holiday home - we hope that this is apparent when you come to stay
